{"id":7779,"date":"2024-02-29T13:08:57","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T18:08:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.adirondack.org\/?p=7779"},"modified":"2024-03-01T13:11:06","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T18:11:06","slug":"celebrate-black-creatives-all-year-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.adirondack.org\/regional-press-coverage\/celebrate-black-creatives-all-year-round\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate Black creatives all year round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>February is Black History Month, a time for celebrating the history, culture, impact and excellence of Black Americans and the broader African diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the founders of Black History Month, is\u00a0<span class=\"quotations\">\u201cAfrican Americans and the Arts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"quotations\">\u201cIn the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression, the African American influence has been paramount,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0the ASAALH wrote in its announcement of the theme.\u00a0<span class=\"quotations\">\u201cAfrican American artists have used art to preserve history and community memory as well as for empowerment. Artistic and cultural movements such as the New Negro, Black Arts, Black Renaissance, hip-hop and Afrofuturism, have been led by people of African descent and set the standard for popular trends around the world. In 2024, we examine the varied history and life of African American arts and artisans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Art created by Black artists, musicians, choreographers, photographers and writers enrich the North Country arts landscape.
